-Our mission: Welcome and thank you for visiting our website. Organic Root Growers (ORG), strives to produce the highest quality yams possible in the State of Florida. These yams are eaten around the world in large quantities by individuals in countries such as Africa, Asia, Caribbean and South America. Our Mission is to introduce these yams for two reasons. Yams' high nutrient content and as an alternative food source for North America. The Yams bought and sold in the U.S are from the family Ipomoea (Ipomoea batatas) and are in the same family with the potato rather than with a true Yam which is in the family known as Dioscorea.
Dioscorea rotundata (White yam) and Dioscorea alata (Purple yam) are perennial crops (seasonal Yams) unlike Dioscorea cayenensis (Yellow yam)
We produce the best yams without the use of sprays such as: fungicide, herbicides or insecticides. Our Head-grower has many years of management & technical growing experience in the Horticultural Industry, specifically micro-propagation (tissue culture).
OUR STORY:
Organic Root Growers is a family owned and operated small business that has been growing yams in Florida for 38 years. Our techniques and success can be traced back as far back as 1888 from the hills of Trelawny, Jamaica.
Now, "Old world technique" meets "modern growing techniques" to help produce a stable crop at an affordable price.
